Energy companies and municipalities know about it: From time to time there are control points which seem to provide no suitable transmission option that could be connected to the communication network. GÖRLITZ and devolo designed a comprehensive solution to exactly these cases comprising automatic meter reading and the metering system IDSpecto.
Thanks to the high-performance trio consisting of G3-PLC data transmission, Skalar and IDSpecto, meters can be connected to power line communications (PLC) in case mobile networks, landlines or Ethernet are only available in poor quality or not available at all. Devices of proven product family Skalar – Skalar ETHN and Skalar Router – are used to read measured values and transmit them to IDSpecto. The distance between the two Skalar devices is bridged by the tried and tested G3-PLC Modem 500k by devolo. The following graphic shows a sample system configuration.
The combination of devices enables a large number of different application scenarios within the low voltage grid, eg control of consumers such as heat pumps, control of plants in accordance with German law (EEG) or variable electricity rates for final customers. The offered package is also an alternative for control points that are concerned by the Telekom's conversion to IP-based technology.
The key advantages of this solution: secure and stable system availability, good network coverage without adding repeaters, optimum range by means of low frequency band (150kHZ up to 500kHz), 100% building penetration in contrast to radio technologies and a high level of security against unauthorized access.
